Boeing is a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial and military aircraft (as well as satellites and other spacecraft) and a provider of related services, including maintenance, modifications, spare parts, training, and data analytics. It also produces a variety of systems used for weapons, intelligence, C4ISR, satellite monitoring and control, and space exploration. The company primarily operates through three segments: 1) Commercial Airplanes; 2) Defense, Space & Security; and 3) Global Services. In 2019, it had $77B in sales, with over 160,000 employees.
The company products experienced a number of fatal crashes which tend to impact the short-term performance of the share price. While the 737-800 Max fatalities were due to programming issues, the recent 737-800 crash was most likely a mid-air break-up caused by loss of power, loss of pressure, mechanical failure, human intervention/error, or something else. Such events tend to be short-term share price negative and investors seeking a long-term exposure to a leading industry conglomerate are given a good entry point.
