HPE: AI Infrastructure Becomes a Growth Engine
A company repositioned at the heart of technology infrastructure
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is changing its profile. Historically associated with enterprise servers and IT infrastructure, HPE is increasingly benefiting from the expansion of cloud computing, networking and, above all, artificial intelligence investment. Its latest results illustrate this shift, with third-quarter fiscal 2026 revenue reaching $12.2 billion, up 34%, while networking revenue increased 75% and Cloud & AI continued to expand strongly.
The investment opportunity
The main attraction of the HPE story is that it is not simply a server play. The company is also benefiting from the growing need for high-performance networking capable of connecting and operating increasingly complex AI infrastructure. Data Center Networking revenue more than doubled in the latest quarter, highlighting how quickly this part of the market is expanding.
Its strengthened relationship with Oracle is an important additional signal. Oracle is deploying HPE Juniper networking solutions in AI-focused data centers as demand for cloud and AI infrastructure accelerates. This gives HPE relatively direct exposure to the next phase of AI infrastructure spending, without requiring investors to bet on the success of a particular AI model or application.
The key risk is therefore shifting. The issue is no longer whether AI infrastructure demand exists, but whether HPE can convert exceptional demand into sustained growth, margins and cash generation as competition and capital requirements increase.
A less obvious way to invest in AI
HPE is not the conventional bet on AI chips or foundation models. Its opportunity lies further down the infrastructure stack, in the systems required to connect, deploy and operate AI at scale.
With networking demand accelerating and AI infrastructure investment remaining strong, HPE offers investors an increasingly credible second-order exposure to the AI cycle. The recent share-price re-rating already reflects part of this opportunity, but the next stage of the investment case will depend on HPE proving that today’s infrastructure boom can translate into durable earnings and free cash flow growth.
