Samsung Electronics: AI Turns Growth into Shareholder Returns

Samsung Electronics is entering a new phase of its growth cycle. Its memory business is benefiting directly from the explosion in AI demand, with strong sales of HBM4, server DRAM and eSSDs. In the second quarter of 2026, the group reported record revenue of 171.5 trillion won and operating profit of 89.5 trillion won.

Investment and opportunity analysis

The more interesting signal is now financial. Samsung plans between 90 trillion and 110 trillion won in shareholder returns in 2026, around five times its previous record. This distribution capacity is directly supported by the cash generation of the AI cycle.

The opportunity is therefore twofold: benefit from structural growth in AI memory while gaining from a much more shareholder-friendly capital allocation policy. The main risk remains cyclical: Samsung’s earnings and valuation are still highly exposed to memory prices and the continuation of AI investment.

Conclusion for investors

Samsung now offers an attractive combination of AI growth, cash generation and shareholder returns. Much of the fundamental improvement is already reflected in the stock, but continued memory shortages and HBM expansion could extend the cycle. For investors, Samsung is becoming less simply a semiconductor bet and more a bet on AI turning cyclical growth into durable cash generation.
