Smart Eye was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. It has offices in the US, UK, Germany, Denmark, Egypt, Singapore, China and Japan. It sells its technology to the automotive industry and behavioral research sectors1. Some of its customers include NASA, Nissan, Boeing, Honeywell, Volvo, GM, BMW, Geely, Harvard University, and over 1,300 research organizations around the world. It also acquired Affectiva and iMotions in 2021. Arguably, the two final frontiers in artificial intelligence are ethics and emotion. Can software decide between right and wrong, in a moral sense? And can software “feel” emotions? Affectiva is dealing with this latter issue by using AI to help systems understand the emotions in a human face and conversation. Affectiva was acquired by Smart Eye, a supplier of driver monitoring systems for automakers.
