The automotive industry in Switzerland
In Switzerland, just over 300 companies manufacture for the worldwide automotive industry. Over the years these companies have acquired a very particular know-how, in their roles as subcontractors to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and as manufacturers of components. In total, their annual sales amount to about 9 billion Swiss francs.
Swiss companies are normally highly specialized in their field and they aim to bring global solutions to some of the special issues the automotive industry is currently dealing with. In particular, Swiss companies focus on weight reduction, more production efficiency, and better resistance versus corrosion.
The most recent paradigm change the automotive industry is currently dealing with, i.e. the exit of diesel, promises to be beneficial for Swiss companies because the requirement to meet new compulsory standards, such as lower CO2 emission standards, requires lighter cars and better energy management systems. Swiss companies have particular knowledge in these areas and therefore bright long-term futures.
Below we provide a selection of some Swiss companies that are mastering this changing business cycle and promise to be successful implementers of new technologies.
